An amazing speech from a 19-year-old University student in Iowa about the strength of his gay family. It came about during a debate in the Iowa House about a resolution to end civil unions in that state. A great speech by Zach Wahls but alas the narrow-minded bigots won the day.
“Over the next 2 hours, I’m sure we’re going to hear plenty of testimony about how damaging having gay parents is on kids, but in my 19 years, not once have I ever been confronted by an individual who realized independently that I was raised by a gay couple,” said Wahls, who has two mothers.
“And you know why,” he asked. “Because the sexual orientation of my parents has had zero effect on the content of my character.”
He is though way off the mark in claiming that being raised by gay parents has had zero effect on his character. I’d say his gay parents have helped him craft a character that can only be described as astounding.
